I recommend Nine Orchard for those used to luxury, willing to pay for it, and wanting to experience New York as it really is today: stylish, alive and a tad under the radar.

The Wallace is a hotel where sometimes you really score surprisingly good deals for the quality you get. It's a small, warm and super cozy hotel, just what you want if you don't want to sleep in an anonymous chain. You're right here among the locals of the Upper West Side - think the atmosphere of oldschool series like Seinfeld, cozy streets, coffee bars on the corner and near cultural temples like Lincoln Center. Ideal for those looking for charm, comfort and a real New York neighborhood, without reaching for the most expensive five stars.

Romer Hotel (Römer) is a recently completely renovated 4-star boutique hotel with a cool, hip vibe and remarkably spacious rooms for New York standards. In my opinion, this is a top choice for families with kids coming to New York for the first time: comfortable, warm, not stiff, AND a short walk from Times Square. Looking for an affordable yet stylish four-star hotel where you can really blow off after a busy day in the city as a family? Then Romer Hotel is one of my absolute recommendations.
