Tip: be guided by a local who speaks your language
Why a Dutch-speaking guide in New York makes all the difference
Let yourself be guided by a local who speaks your language.
Not because you don't speak a word of English. But because a Dutch-speaking guide in New York will make you see more, understand more and really feel where you are - without missing half of it.
I am Patrick van Rosendaal, born in Belgium with a Dutch dad, now an American, and for more than 18 years New York has been my home.
As a Dutch-speaking city guide in New York, I help Belgians and Dutch people to not do a standard city trip, but an experience you'll be talking about for years to come.
**Why a Dutch-speaking guide in New York?
Yes, Google Maps will get you everywhere.
Yes, you can find tons of tips online.
But that's exactly the problem: lots of info, little filtering.
A Dutch-speaking guide in New York suddenly makes 3 things a lot easier:
- You don't miss any of the story
No half sentences, no "I'll look it up later". Everything is explained in Dutch (or French), clearly and to the point.
- You understand the city, not just the buildings
Neighborhoods, history, unwritten rules, small codes... It's hard to get a feel for that from a blog or TikTok. A local translates the city for you - literally and figuratively.
- You'll get more out of your precious time
You're only here for a few days. With a guide who understands your culture and humor, you skip a lot of trial and error. Less searching, more experiencing.
For Belgians and Dutch it goes even further:
- you get tips that work with our habits, our way of traveling, our questions
- no fancy "you guys are amazing" sales talk, but honest information
- concrete advice: where to go, where not to go, and how to use your budget wisely
**My story: from love to legacy
I didn't come to New York "to do some tours".
I moved primarily for love and for professional opportunities. And as it goes with this city: I fell head over heels in love with it.
When I took my exam as an official city guide, the examiner said afterwards:
"You must be the first Belgian city guide in New York, right?"
That moment was the starting shot of something that would become much bigger than I myself realized at the time.
There was media attention, interviews, TV programs, newspapers, radio. I began to guide Belgians and Dutch who wanted to feel "at home" for a while in this gigantic city.
What started as "the Belgian who guides in New York" grew into a platform that thousands of people use.
Meanwhile:
- I have been living in New York for more than 18 years
- I wrote four order books about the New York
- I've guided more than 50,000 people.
- I guide families, couples, groups of friends as well as companies and incentives
And every tour still starts from the same idea:
New York is for everyone, regardless of interest and/or budget; but with the right guide you will get much more out of it.
**From guide to platform: what is NewYork.be today?
NewYork.be has become much more than "Patrick giving tours".
It is a platform for Belgians and Dutch that brings 3 things together:
1. Dutch-speaking guides & tours
- tailor-made private tours
- semi-private and small group tours
- special themed walks (food, neighborhoods, Christmas, etc.).
2. Travel planning & group tours - assistance in developing programs
- multi-day experiences
- incentive travel and corporate trips
3. tips, stories and community - a growing online community of Dutch-speaking New York-lovers
- blog posts, podcasts, reels, newsletters
- honest, up-to-date info that doesn't come out of a generic travel agent booklet
NewYork.be is DMC, guide and community in one.
You don't just book "a trip", you join a network of locals who speak your language and live and work in the city.
The unique combo: Belgian/Dutch and American
**Why is that Dutch-speaking guide in New York so important?
Because it's not just about language, but about culture.
I speak your language - literally and figuratively:
- I understand perfectly how Belgians and Dutch people travel
- I know what annoys you, what you are looking for, what you find "too busy", "too touristy" or "wonderful New York".
At the same time I am also an American:
- I know the local rules, the sensitivities, the do's & don'ts
- I move here as a New Yorker, not as a tourist with a plan
- I can explain why things are the way they are here
That bridge function - between your world and New York - is the real gap in the market.
You travel with someone who understands you as a Belgian/Dutch person and who breathes this city as a New Yorker.
Not just me: a team under the same wings
I'm not doing this alone.
Many of my colleagues are:
- actors and actresses
- expat women and men
- people with a creative or cultural profile
But all of them share the same philosophy:
New York is not a setting, but a living story.
Those who guide for NewYork.be are trained under my wing:
- the same focus on quality, safety and storytelling
- the same style: human, honest, without show for show
- the same love for the city and respect for the customer
Thus, step by step, NewYork.be has grown into a platform of Dutch-speaking guides in New York, supported by a team - not by one person who "just does a few more tours".
**For whom is a Dutch speaking city guide in New York ideal?
For first timers
You're only here once for the first time.
With a Dutch-speaking guide in New York, you won't make an "I have no idea what I'm doing" start, but a kick start.
For families with children
Children have a different rhythm.
We take into account:
- toilet stops
- hunger and energy
- attention span
You get stories that stick for them, too, without making it a boring lesson.
For couples & groups of friends
You avoid discussions about "where to go next?" because someone has already figured it out for you.
You'll get tips for great neighborhoods, bars, food spots and things that suit you.
For businesses & groups
You don't want chaos, you want structure and experience.
A local DMC with Dutch-speaking city guides makes sure everything is right: timings, logistics, content and atmosphere.
**Are you still in doubt?
That's normal. New York is big, busy, overwhelming.
But that is precisely why a Dutch-speaking guide in New York is so valuable:
- you don't have to figure it all out yourself
- the city is explained to you by someone who lives here
- you feel less like a tourist, more "initiated
This is how you take the next step
Don't want to just "go to New York," but be accompanied by someone who speaks your language AND knows the city inside out?
